Spotlight: Pick and Pack Wireless

February 12, 2008
The last quarter saw another significant rollout of Penchant dispatchOffice technology combined with channel-partner hardware.  In this case the hardware was the Motorola/Symbol MC70 which was used in a high-volume pick-and-pack operation outside of Atlanta, GA.

The Motorola devices are used in several different aspects of the operation.  As inbound goods are received, a combination of MC9000 and MC70 units are used to unload the trailers and scan each incoming item.  These same units are used in the initial put-away operation to store the incoming goods in the proper warehouse location.

As customer orders arrive (electronically) into the dispatchOffice system, warehouse pick line operators receive picking instructions from their dispatchOffice system and use MC70's to handle the actual item-by-item picking.

In the final steps, shipping station operators scan all items for staging to the outbound carrier.

Our thanks to the team at Motorola/Symbol for their great help in this significant rollout.  Let's do it again!
